New CEO of Girl Scouts council says programs must be current

Cookie sales and camp are two of the time-honored and cherished components of the Girl Scout experience. But today’s Scouting is much more than that, says Pam Kovacevich, the new CEO of the local Girl Scouts council.

“There are leadership opportunities that are not provided, really, anywhere else for girls, not at this caliber,” said Kovacevich, who began her new post Dec. 3. “There are some stereotypes we need to overcome … (By) staying in tune with what teenagers and ‘tweens’ are now being attracted to, really we have to make ourselves current. Our programs have to be made current.”

We are now Troop 6134

On October 1 there will be a council realignment joining Centrillio Council in Bloomington, Green Meadows Council in Champaign, Kickapoo Council in Peoria, Shemamo Council in Decatur, Two Rivers Council in Quincy and our Land of Lincoln Council in Springfield into The Girl Scouts of Illinois.

All Troops in the Springfield Council will have a six added to the front of their current numbers. We were Troop 134 Land of Lincoln Council but as of October 1, 2007 we will become Troop 6134 Girl Scouts of Central Illinois.
